What our participants have shared

“I felt so much pressure to act like I was okay when I really wasn’t. I was in hospital for weeks, going through chemo, and I didn’t even recognise myself anymore, my hair was falling out, my eyebrows were gone, I was exhausted in a way I can’t explain, and some days I couldn’t even walk up the driveway. People expected me to stay positive because that’s who I used to be, but I just didn’t have the energy for it. Then I went to a session like this and it honestly felt like I was claiming my life back again, learning how to do my eyebrows, putting a bit of makeup on, just small things that helped me feel like myself and a bit more human again. Being with other people who understood made it feel normal, not heavy or sad, just a space where I could breathe a bit. Those moments of self-care really mattered, they reminded me I could still find something positive in all of it, and that there was still a version of me worth holding onto.” – Elisha Fransch

“It felt like I was claiming my life back, I normally dress quite colorfully, I love doing makeup. I have quite thick eyebrows and that was something that was lost pretty quickly. I had to learn how to how to fill in my eyebrows and to look more human and like myself, because cancer takes that away from you.”
